Netflix took me to Raspberry Pi 2 Model B

0 comentarios

Netflix logoI have opened this week a Netflix account. And I am really happy with it. This first month they have given me a free trial. I have chosen the Standard option 9,99€/month: Two devices at the same time plus HD. Premium offers 4 devices at once and Ultra HD, but not all the content supports it and of course it is more expensive.

I must say that the HD quality is being so far really good. Therefore, Standard versus Premium, wins Standard. Also one thing that I like about Netflix is that you can unsubscribe any month you want.

I am also using Amazon Prime (in Germany) as Streaming option and other media sources like Youtube or official Media-Content from International TVs. That is why I thought of releasing my poor old Laptop from all the effort while transferring content to my TV, by buying an Amazon Fire tv stick, which also supports Netflix.

But just to buy it (online of course), to plug-in it, and use it would be really cool if I were not a Computer Engineer. But, what is going to be fun is to create myself a Media Stick!

That’s why, I started looking for a media server.. and by googling I ended up looking at Projects of Raspberry Pi.

And again the same thing, to buy me a Server or to take an old Computer was not going to be fun... I wanted to create something from scratch and of course money did matter.

Therefore, after researching a lot, I decided to buy me a Raspberry Pi Starter Kit: 75€. I would have find it 10 Euros cheaper, but with a 8 Gb Micro SD and a worse Case. I have bought it at Amazon.de (Prime you know...)

32 GB Micro SD Card (Class 10)
WiFi Adapter
Power Supply
Raspberry Pi 2 Case
2 Sinks

The Raspberry Pi 2 Model B is the second generation Raspberry Pi. What makes it really interesting is, that with only 39€ it has: 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU and 1GB RAM

Like the (Pi 1) Model B+, it also has: 4 USB ports. 40 GPIO pins. Full HDMI port. Ethernet port. Combined 3.5mm audio jack and composite video. Camera interface (CSI). Display interface (DSI). Micro SD card slot. VideoCore IV 3D graphics core.

Because it has an ARMv7 processor, it can run the full range of ARM GNU/Linux distributions, including Snappy Ubuntu Core, as well as Microsoft Windows 10 [more Info] (Let's see it!)

In a few days I will receive the kit and I will start playing with it. I will continue posting and telling you what it is capable of!

Have a nice Week!!
